It can be depicted as a sequence of operations, the work of a person or group, the work of an organization of staff, or one or more simple or complex mechanisms.

- Develop the metadata markup to find and register a workflow in a registry and exchange metadata between workflow registries
- Advocate for the adoption of the markup in workflow registries and repositories
- Advocate for the adoption of the markup by workflow management systems
- Advocate for the development of tools to support the markup and its use
